Sarah Gillespie RWA - All that I have is a River

£1,100.00

Mezzotint engraving
41 x 41 cm
2026

Sarah Gillespie – short statement 2026 My mezzotints and drawings reflect my interest in Buddhist thought, specifically ideas of non-separateness. There are no ‘things’, only relationships, and as an artist that means truth is to be found in attending – really attending - to those encounters. I would go further and say that all sentient beings (and I include trees and rivers, moths and clouds in that definition) are, by their very nature, communicative presences. If that seems incomprehensible to the western European mind, it maybe because we have stopped paying attention, stopped heeding, stopped minding the subtle encounters and exchanges in the more-than-human world around us. My work pays attention to those interactions and relationships; I am searching for a poetic language with which to celebrate the shimmering reality of what remains that is beautiful in our animate, watching world.
