I could spend a hundred lifetimes trying to convey all that the Wiltshire downland landscape makes me feel. It sings with life, present and past, buzzes with stories calling to be retold. Wild and magnificent, the soil I am rooted in pleats and folds itself into distant horizons. The landscape of my lifetime and of my ancestors before me.
This gestural, layered reduction linocut is an emotional response to a place I hold dear. The mark-making deliberately reflects the rhythms and atmosphere of the land.
This is part of a body of work that I have been developing for a number of years that is my personal expression of my love for the landscapes, rural traditions and folklore of Wiltshire.
