Myfanwy Johns lives and works across the UK and France. Her practice draws on her everyday visual experiences and observations, inviting quiet connections with the viewer.
I love transient moments, for example, how a ripple of sunlight passes through foliage. Landscape and gardens are recurring subjects, where I often work en plein-air. I am interested in how our perceptions can be altered by light, seasonal changes and our own emotional states. I also enjoy the way a painting is physically constructed, how fluid paint occupies space and plays with flatness.
Johns’ work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. She was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in 2004. She is an inaugural member of Dialogue, an Anglo-French artist group; in 2020, Dialogue presented Human Nature: Nature Humaine, at the Talence Arts Centre and the Botanical Gardens in Bordeaux.
