Francesca Silverton - What's in the Ground? - Meteorite Form 3

£600.00

Porcelain, bronze glazes
20 x 22 cm
2026

The ground is never still. Francesca Silverton's Meteorites (2026) begin with shifting shingle on a beach — its gaps opening and closing with each footstep and tide. A meteorite, too, is only a piece of ground, moving through space. Working with shingle at the sea's edge, Silverton pours plaster into these fleeting spaces, creating unrepeatable forms, shaped by the ground as it shifts. She casts from these plaster moulds into porcelain, finishing with a bronze glaze where earth oxides — manganese and copper — pool and run onto the ground beneath, forming textured, rivulet surfaces. These sculptural meteorites are made in clay, the material of the ground — shared by everyone, everywhere, underfoot and in space. Francesca Silverton exhibits widely, including at the Linley Gallery, London. She was longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize (2023) and graduated from the Royal College of Art (2026), supported by a Marit Rausing Scholarship.
