Wildfire charcoal and Cranborne Chase chalk on cradled panel
180 x 80 cm
2026
Over the last decade I have been collecting charcoal from wildfires from Amazonia to the UK.
Using this most archaic of materials Finn has been making artworks that address climate change directly by depicting the very fires from which the charcoal came.
The aim is to help fund the restoration of the habitats effected and this takes place through the process of transforming destruction into creation and ultimately restoration.
By doing this I hope to demonstrate that art can be an agent of direct action, that its value can derive from its values.
‘It can feel that the problems we face are too large, too complex, and too advanced for anyone to believe they can help to alleviate them, yet I hope I have demonstrated with my work that it is possible however meagre our means’
