Alice Feaver - Bedford Hill, August, after 8pm

£650.00

Acrylic on panel board
20 x 20 cm
2026

I enjoy the tension between a big sky and the ordinary places beneath it. These recent works explore my relationship with the land as I find myself back in an urban environment over the summer. I live on Mull in the Hebrides, where the vastness of the open sky has become an important part of how I experience landscape. Returning to the city, supermarket car parks and their familiar surroundings can suddenly feel alien, but also strangely beautiful. In these paintings, I am interested in the contrast between the immensity of the universe and the very human, practical world beneath it. The earth’s crust becomes something mundane: tarmac, concrete, painted lines and the conveniences of everyday life. Yet these surfaces also become a kind of landscape in themselves. I like the humour in this collision between the cosmic and the ordinary — contemplating the vastness of existence, then bumping back down to earth in a supermarket car park.
