About Landscape Open
The Salisbury Museum is located in Wiltshire in the centre of southern England. It is surrounded by landscapes and monuments that have inspired many generations of artists - Stonehenge, Cranborne Chase and the New Forest are all nearby. The artists include some of England’s most famous landscape painters including John Constable, JMW Turner, Paul Nash, John Piper and Eric Ravillious.
Given the importance of our local landscape to artists it seems appropriate that Salisbury Museum should be the setting for an open competition that will celebrate what is so special about this area.
Salisbury Museum is based in the King’s House, an impressive grade I listed medieval building opposite Salisbury Cathedral.
Our mission is to welcome, inspire and entertain our diverse audiences by telling the story of Salisbury and the surrounding area – a unique landscape which has been the cradle of unparalleled human achievement for over half a million years.
We continually seek new ways to engage and collaborate with the broadest of audiences and partners. We use our expertise, creativity and passion, and the extraordinary breadth of our collections, to present contemporary experiences, displays, exhibitions and events which give context to the archaeological, historic and artistic riches of Salisbury and south Wiltshire.
